The Tigers’ high-powered offense doesn’t need much help, but Drip’s defense is providing it anyway. The Tigers are allowing just 9.0 points-per-game overall, with three shutouts thus far.
Coach Jeff Able’s Bowie Bulldogs (1-1, 4-2) appear to have regained their playoff form after missing the post-season last year. The Dawgs are a touchdown away from a 5-1 mark after falling to playoff contender Vista Ridge 27-21 and took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter against Lake Travis last month before the Cavs roared back for a big win.
Junior Rhys Moreno (111-931 Yds., 8.4 YPC, 13 TDs) powers the Bulldog offense on the ground while senior quarterbacks Christian Heywood (32-43, 373 yds, 4 TD, 2 INTs) and Brady Lamm (22-45, 230 yds., TD, 5 INTs) have guided the Dawgs’ offense to 34.3 points-per-game. Heywood has also tacked on 244 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 36 carries. Bowie is allowing 25 points per game on defense.
Bowie hosts powerful Westlake next week while Dripping Springs hosts Lake Travis. Before the Dawgs and the Tigers can go for their respective upsets, however, they’ll have to deal with each other first in this week’s VYPE Central Texas Game of the Week.
