Pasadena ISD Playmakers powered by Texas Citizens Bank

Matt Malatesta
May 27, 2020

There are so many great athletes in Pasadena ISD. VYPE highlights five athletes from the Padadena ISD softball diamond in this edition of The Stars of Pasadena ISD powered by Texas Citizens Bank.

 Leslie Longoria, Dobie Softball

Dobie's Leslie Longoria has been wielding a mighty bat since she's been on varsity. The left-handed hitter has come up clutch time and time again for the Longhorns and was hitting at a .429 clip before the season was cut short. She was named a first-team, all-district pick for her play in 2020.

Yazmin Rutiaga, Pasadena Softball

Yazmin Rutiaga of Pasadena has worked hard in the classroom and on the diamond. She was an all-district selection since stepping into the Eagle dugout. Ratiaga was a first-teamer this year. The senior is headed to Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Anabella Valadez, Pasadena Memorial

While the season was just getting started, Pasadena Memorial was trying to again dominate the district. Anabella Valadez started off strong on the mound and was named to the first-team, all-district team in the shortened season.

Jordan Monsevais, Sam Rayburn

Jordan Monsevais is a silky-smooth shortstop for Sam Rayburn. She's quick around the bases as well. The junior was a first-team selection in 2020 and also doubles as an athletic trainer for the football team.

Katie Lerma, South Houston

Katie Lerma of South Houston is one of the school's Who's Who candidates. She stars for the Lady Trojan softball team but also is in the honor curriculum at SOHO. Lerma earned all-district honors for District 22-6A.

Opportunistic Lewisville beats Denton Guyer

Cody Thorn
13 Oct, 2026

Lewisville's Devin Robinson (0) celebrates after returning an interception for a touchdown against Denton Guyer on Friday.

Jeff Rayome

The quest for the District 6-6A title is far from over, but some of the contenders for one of the four playoff berths are coming into focus after Week 7.

After another week of Texas high school football action, three teams are still unbeaten in district play: Denton Braswell, Carrollton Hebron and Lewisville. At least one of those teams will lose this week as Hebron and Lewisville battle for a share of first.

THE POWER RANKINGS: Cedar Ridge surges to #2 behind Westlake

Merle Bertrand
12 Oct, 2026

Westlake remains on top of this week’s Power Rankings after cruising to an easy win. That was the simple part, as all heck broke loose behind the Chaps. As the dust from several high-profile showdowns settled, it revealed a plethora of comers and goers.

Undefeated Cedar Ridge is the biggest gainer by far, rocketing to #2 after a Goal Line stand helped the Raiders hold off Lake Travis at Cavalier Stadium. (Anyone else looking forward to their upcoming showdown with Westlake?) Round Rock climbs a spot to #3 despite their Bye, based primarily on earlier wins over the two teams immediately behind the Dragons #4 Dripping Spring and #5 Vandegrift.

Cedar Park was the other team that scored a massive win, coming back late to overtake Hutto and moving up to #6 ahead of this week’s grudge match with the Vipers. Lake Travis settles at #7 while Bowie moves up three spots to #8 with an impressive win over Hays. Hutto leads a parade of teams that dropped games last week, landing at #9 while Weiss rounds out the Top 10.

Anderson drops a couple spots but still tops the second tier after running into a buzzsaw in Smithson Valley. Rouse rebounded from their loss to Cedar Park to move to #12, followed by Liberty Hill and Hays. Wimberley remains the highest-ranked 4A squad at #15.

Georgetown climbs a spot to #16, as did Lago Vista to #17 and Hendrickson to #18. Legacy Ranch continues to impress and reenters the Rankings at #19 while Taylor rounds out the slate after dropping their game in a basketball score at Tivy.

Regents held off a strong challenge from Legacy Sports and Sciences to remain atop the private school rankings. And while St. Michaels suffered its second defeat of the season, there’s enough separation between them and the rest of the local private schools to keep the Warriors at #2.

Not surprisingly, several big matchups – Cedar Park vs. Vandegrift, we’re looking at you – are on tap again this week. We’ll see if the deck shuffles again.
