Looking for the Long Ball -Aldine ISD Magazine

Don't take her mild-mannered nature as a weakness because MacArthur's Angel Morales carries a big stick.

The senior, who returns as the reigning District 16-6A MVP, has big goals.

"I hit 10 home runs as a freshman and I want to smash that mark this year," Morales said. "We made history going four rounds deep in the playoffs my sophomore year, so we want to beat that record, too."

Morales grew up playing multiple sports, but softball simply stuck.

"At four-years-old, my parents were going to put me in soccer, but we missed the deadline," she said. "They signed me up for softball and I just fell in love with the sport. I've never stopped playing. My dad played slow-pitch softball on the weekends and we would go and watch. He's taught me everything I know."

Morales has become one of the most feared hitters in the State of Texas, which led to the University of Houston offering her early.

"My favorite player is Lauren Chamberlain," the UH signee said. "She's the 'Queen of Home Runs'. I'm just very confident at the plate. I clear my head and know what pitch I want to hit.

"I committed in the fall of my junior year to the [University of Houston]. The coaches were very welcoming and the players told me it would be the best four years of my life."

For now, Morales is hoping to lead Big Mac to school history and going out big in her senior year. But what about the future?

"I want to be an athletic trainer for a professional sports team," she said. "When my softball career is over, of course."

Whenever that may be.
