The Davis Falcons Girls' Soccer program is on solid footing.
Coming off a third-place finish and a playoff appearance last season, the Falcons were ready to make a splash this spring. Mission accomplished as Davis is a lock for another playoff spot.
Leading the way is Alisson Quintanilla, who has taken more of a scoring role in her senior season.
"My game has changed," Quintanilla said. "In the past, I would be making plays and setting up my teammates to score. Now, I'm forced to take it on my own and go score. Before, I would never take shots, so I've really improved on that end."
Soccer is a way of life for the Quintanillas and an escape at times. "Soccer is my passion," she said. "I can have all the problems in the world but if I have a ball and can play, I forget about everything.
"My dad still plays to this day and I'd always go with him to the fields. I grew up playing with the boys and that has made me better. The game has just always been a part of life for my family." A huge Lionel Messi fan, Quintanilla sees her soccer career moving past high school.
"I invest a lot of time into the sport," she said. "I want to play in college, get my degree and try and make the pros after that."
Her speed and soccer IQ are her calling-cards and now she can check the box of being a team leader.
"I'm pretty out-going," she said. "There's some pressure being a leader but it's fun. We are all on the same page and we all want the same thing, so it's easy to lead this group. "This is my family and we are trying go out this season going as far as we can."
