Recruit Scoop: The Woodlands QB Mabrey Mettauer Takes Unofficial Visit To Wisconsin

Class of 2024 The Woodlands 4-Star QB Mabrey Mettauer had a breakout sophomore year winning District MVP, throwing for 2,500 yards and 25 TD's also rushing for 444 yards and 15 TD's. Mettauer now has 24 offers and counting from some big Power 5 programs and interest from many more.

One of those programs, Wisconsin, got Mettauer to campus this past weekend on an unofficial visit to watch the Badgers host Washington State.

I got the chance to catch-up with Mabrey about his visit, relationship with the staff, the game and more!

Mettauer had mentioned he was going up to Madison to check out the Badgers postgame in his Thursday Night win against district foe Oak Ridge.

This was the 6'6 gunslinger's first trip to visit Wisconsin and experience the game atmosphere there. I asked Mettauer about his initial thoughts on the visit and he said "the town of Madison was beautiful" also mentioning that the game day atmosphere was "absolutely amazing".

Mettauer talked about that game atmosphere at Wisconsin and what made it amazing to him saying "I really loved the striped stadium with the red and the white, and the student section was going crazy" he said with a laugh. Mabrey also talked about how much love the fans showed saying "from when we stepped on campus I had fans and students coming up to me knowing who I was which was pretty special".

This was also Mabrey's first time meeting the Staff for the Badgers and he really liked the family environment they gave off. He mentioned that OC/QB Coach Bobby Engram and the Recruiting staff talked with him a lot and he really enjoyed getting to know them. The thing that stuck out to Mettauer the most was Coach Chryst coming to talk with Mabrey pregame, saying that "It meant a lot to my Dad and I to have Coach Chryst come out of his way to talk with me" . The Woodlands QB also talked about how he liked how down to earth Chryst is and his winning mentality, "Coach Chryst and the staff really made it feel like I could help build that winning program they're striving for and that is something I really liked about them".

Lastly, I talked to Mabrey about all the twitter love the fans were showing after his visit and he said "it's always great getting love from the fans, and Badger fans especially were showing me love".

Mettauer has no other Unofficials scheduled so far but is ready for big district game against 3-0 New Caney this week. Mabrey has been impressive in his past two games going 34/47 for 616 yards and 6 TD's also rushing 63 yards for 2 TD's as well. Expect a big year for Mettauer and The Highlanders who look to make deep run in the playoffs.
