Playoff Fever in McKinney

The fall sports are coming to a close as volleyball entered the playoffs this week and football playoffs begin next week. With those winding down, there's a lot of action taking place across the city this week with two volleyball games and a winner-take-all football game for a potential playoff spot.

VOLLEYBALL

In 6A, McKinney Boyd swept Wylie 3-0 in Tuesday's Bi-District matchup. They'll be back in action on Friday against Rockwall.

To 5A, where McKinney North's season came to an end on Tuesday, as the Bulldogs were swept by Frisco Wakeland in the first round.

FOOTBALL

On Friday night at McKinney ISD Stadium is a 9-6A clash between McKinney and McKinney Boyd. Last week, both teams were able to remain in the playoff picture with wins over Dallas Jesuit and Plano, respectively. Currently, McKinney is tied with Plano for the last playoff spot with both teams holding a 3-3 district record. Plano holds the tie-breaker over McKinney, so a win this week would clinch them a playoff spot. McKinney gets in if it wins and Plano loses to Prosper.

In sixth place, and a game back of both Plano and McKinney, is McKinney Boyd at 2-4. Boyd can get into the playoffs with a win over McKinney on Friday and a Plano loss to Prosper since Boyd would have tie-breakers over both teams.

What started out as tough sledding for each Mckinney team to open the season, has the potential to morph into very positive years across the board. The internal Mckinney ISD drama thickens with all three teams contending for a playoff spot and the ability to play meaningful football in November.
