Legendary Ragin’ Cajuns catcher Lana Bowers takes the reins of the Bulldogs, aiming to capitalize on the program’s status as a perennial challenger in Houston. Summer Creek shared the District 23-6A title with Kingwood last season, finishing 25-6, but ran into a tough postseason draw and fell in the opening round to eventual 6A Division I State Finalist Clear Springs.
But don’t sleep on SCHS — they have talent to spare and should be more motivated than ever.
Pitching duties will likely continue to be split between the one-two punch of juniors Torie Turner (Maryland commit) and Alyssa Flores (Trinity Valley), both first-team all-district selections who are equally dangerous at the plate.
Meanwhile, shortstop Elaina Bonuelos (South Carolina Upstate) and catcher Olivia Maciel (Trinity Valley) — both first-teamers — will look to cap off their senior seasons on a high note, while second-team infielder Bella Melchor should build on a spring in which she led the team with 28 RBIs and eight home runs.
