VYPE Burning Questions- Week of April 4th

It's the debut edition of VYPE Burning Questions. Each week I pose some questions from across the state of Texas, then break down how I think that question will play out. I won't always be right, but hey who is?

Queston1: Can Katy Tompkins complete the perfect season?

While they have had a few close calls at this point in the season, #1 Katy Tompkins currently sits at 19-0 with 7 games to go. There next game, happening today at 6:00PM, will put them through their first round of district opponents. So far in district play the Falcons have won by an average of 8 runs a game, though they do have close victories against Katy Taylor (4 runs) and Cinco Ranch (2 runs). They face their toughest test yet against #5 Katy who is also currently undefeated in district and sits at 18-4 on the season

What do I think?

With 7 games to go it would be quite the feat for Tompkins to finish the season undefeated. Add to that the 2 of those games are against one of the top 5 teams in the state? I do see one loss coming but I figure Katy Tompkins to head into playoffs still the #1 Team in the state.

Question 2: Is Georgetown on it's way to another big playoff run?

Last year everyone's focus heading into playoffs was on Leander and their undefeated record. They had taken care of Georgetown, opponents in district, and most expected the same in their 3-game playoff series. However Georgetown came out with the win before losing in the State semis to State Runner-up Aledo. So what about this year? Even with a new Head Coach at the helm, Georgetown has picked up right where it left off after last season with an impressive 20-2 record with 6 games to go and coming in ranked at #4. Can they get back to where they were last season, and get to the state finals game this year? To do so they will most likely have a similar path to the finals. They will most likely need to get through Leander (ranked #6) again (one of the 2 teams they've lost to this season) as well as potentially #18 Aledo (sitting at 17-2 on the season).

What do I think?

Run it back. I think Georgetown is poised to get to the last day of the tournament this year where they will have a chance to bring home a state title to Georgetown. If they meet in the playoffs, Leander vs Georgetown will be a must watch series.

Question 3: Can Boerne Soccer repeat?

After taking home the state crown in 2021 with an impressive 21-1-1 record, the Men's Boerne Greyhound squad has picked up right where they left off. They currently sit at 23-2-1 and are a couple of games from going back-to-back. After 2 losses early in the season, Boerne has gone on a 23 undefeated streak (with 1 tie in there) and have thus far looked dominant in their playoff games. Next up for them on their quest to repeat? Progreso.

What do I think?

I think we are looking at a back-to-back champions in the San Antonio area. Boerne has showed no signs of slowing down after their state title last year. They look everything of the force they were last year if not more. And with Wrestlemania just happening this past weekend the phrase "To be the man, you have to beat the man!" ....and honestly I'll be surprised if anyone in 4A can knock them off this year.
