No. 20 — WHEATLEY WILDCATS
It was a historic season for Fifth Ward High — the Wheatley Wildcats made it all the way to the State Championship Game, led by David Burrell, who returned to coach the team 20 years after winning a State Title as a player.
Now, that’s full circle.
So, what’s next for Burrell and the Wildcats?
Back in the fold are seniors Jeremiah Baskin (point guard), Herbert Goldsmith (shooting guard), and Collier Coleman (forward), all poised to lead the way back to Austin.
Adding depth and versatility, sophomore Peter Dorsey brings size and skill that will help him continue building an impressive high school resume.
The path won’t be easy. With challenges from Yates and La Marque, the Wildcats will have to fight for every win. But for now, Wheatley holds the bragging rights — and the city will be watching to see if they can go all the way.
