Does coach Wayne Ralph have something brewing on the northeast side of town at Class 5A Porter?
The Spartans reached the Regional Quarters for the second time in school history and have some big-time talent back in the dugout.
The straw that stirs the drink is Jake Tatom, who is a hitting machine. The shortstop has the record for team RBIs and uses the entire field. The strength of the team is pitching, where Ralph has the luxury of two nasty lefties – Zane Adams and Michael Benzor. Adams was the District Newcomer of the Year and is committed to the University of Alabama, while Benzor is committed to Oklahoma State.
When the Spartans want to go from the right side, they call on Colin Carney, who was 3-0 in 2021.
Watch for Josh Evans-Pickens, Blake Russell and Ralph Martinez to be big contributors as the Spartans try and march through the likes of Lake Creek, Kingwood Park and Montgomery in a tough District 20-5A.
