Draden Moss of Memorial High
OVER THE PAST FEW SEASONS, IT’S BECOME CLEAR THAT GIRLS BASKETBALL STANDS AMONG THE GRITTIEST ARENAS IN HOUSTON HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS.
LAST MARCH’S STATE TITLE THRILLER — CAPPED BY SUMMER CREEK’S COMEBACK VICTORY — ONLY REINFORCED THAT TRUTH.
BEYOND THE SCOREBOARD, THOUGH, THE SPORT CONTINUES TO BE DEFINED BY THE PERSONALITIES DRIVING IT FORWARD — ATHLETES WHO REPRESENT NOT JUST THEMSELVES, BUT THE COMMUNITIES THAT SHAPED THEM.
AS ANOTHER CAMPAIGN APPROACHES, WE SPOTLIGHT THE NAMES AND PROGRAMS SETTING THE STANDARD IN H-TOWN HOOPS.
HERE ARE THE CAN'T MISS KIDS IN H-TOWN.

No. 25 — CRAWFORD CHARGERS
Welcome one of Houston’s newest programs to the scene —and a fast-rising one at that.
Under coach Veronica Johnson, the Chargers made plenty of noise in their inaugural varsity campaign, finishing 17-16 and advancing to the Area Round of the playoffs.
It’s a familiar formula for Johnson, who previously turned Atascocita into a perennial contender. Now just nine wins shy of career victory No. 200, she’s laying the foundation for another powerhouse.
Crawford returns its entire starting five, setting the stage for a major leap in Year Two. Haleigh Bonwell (Sr. F) – a first-team, all-district selection – headlines the group after averaging roughly 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals per contest.
Joining her is Madison Johnson (Sr. F), another first-team pick who posted 9 points and 7 rebounds a game, while Kassidy Mouton (Jr.G) added 8 points and 3 steals. Betsy Martinez, Alexandria Charles, and Jalise Hite also return after providing valuable playoff experience.
