That was a classic Week 6 in Texas high school football...am I right? Lots of interesting story lines, but here are the most interesting.
And as a reminder, these opinions are meant to be held within this singular moment in time and not carry over each week.
10-6A Is A Bit Messy
Wylie's loss to Lakeview Centennial seemed a bit surprising and Sachse has bounced back nicely after an opening-district loss. Rowlett is sitting pretty at 3-0 in district after an 0-3 start to the year and there are four teams tied for fourth with 1-2 records. In any regard, this district will be fun to sort out in the last five weeks of the season.
Southlake Carroll Can't Be Stopped
Despite losing a bunch of skill players from a 13-1 team that made it to the Regional Semifinals last year, Southlake Carroll appears to be a continued forced to be reckoned with this year and for years to come. Taking down vaunted Denton Guyer for the second straight year is big and the Dragons should cruise the rest of the way to the playoffs. It wouldn't be surprising for Carroll to be right where it was last year, in an undefeated matchup with Duncanville in the regional semis.
Fun in 5-5A Division II
Midlothian pushed Aledo as much as any district opponent has in recent years, losing in overtime. Centennial dominated Burleson and Cleburne fell to Arlington Seguin for its first win in nearly two years. There is a lot left to be settled the rest of the district calendar, and what shows now in the standings could be completely different at season's end. Let's embrace the possible chaos.
Ennis With a Statement
Ennis hasn't won double-digit wins since winning state in 2014. Since, the Lions have averaged 4.5 losses a season and were bounced in the first round last year. With a big win over ranked Royse City on Friday, it might be time to watch out for the former 5A power being a big threat this year.
For the second time in three weeks, it was a 17-7 finish in predictions, moving the record to 99-41. To get to the 75 percent prediction clip, I have to average 19 correct picks a week the last five of the year.
