VYPE U: War of the Woods Ends In Cavalier Victory
A sold-out crowd filled with College Park and Woodlands Basketball fans packed into the TWCP gym on Tuesday night. The game would determine if The Woodlands High School would clinch a playoff spot and if the Cavaliers would accomplish a season sweep against their cross-town rivals.
The game began with an active Highlander offense scoring 18 points just in the 1st quarter. The Cavalier offense struggled to get the ball and gain momentum. The first quarter ended with a Highlander lead, 18-6.
During the 2nd quarter the Highlanders tough offense was still challenging the Cavaliers. TWCP sophomore, Ty Buckmon managed to score 6 points to help get the team back on track. College Park would end the 2nd quarter trailing The Woodlands by 12 points.
After the 1st half, the Cavaliers were in desperate need of strong offense performance in order to remain in the game. Ty Buckmon's stellar performance in the 3rd quarter and Logan Maksimowictz's 3 point shot in the 4th quarter got Cavalier fans on their feet as a victory seemed near even after a rocky 1st half. The Highlanders' multiple steals and free throw attempts threatened the Cavalier's lead but in the end, College Park came out victorious with a win of 56-51.
Ty Buckmon ended the game with 18 points and was named MVP after a spectacular performance. Drew Calderon and Khi Watkins scored 10 points each in the game and also helped lead the Cavaliers to their big win. The Cavaliers are now headed to playoffs and are looking forward to more exciting games and major wins throughout the remainder of the season.
College Park is currently the 2nd seed in District 16-6A for playoffs behind Klein High School and will play Dekaney on February 25th at Grand Oaks High School.
