Coach Jake Griedl’s crew quickly shook off the blahs from last week’s tough road loss in Montgomery. The Bears raced out to a 21-0 lead midway through the 3rd quarter behind rushing touchdowns by Izaiah Regalado, Brennon Hopkins and Jahmani Jones-Watkins.
The Chaparrals (0-2) rallied behind senior quarterback Bryson Coleman to pull within 21-12. However, Brennon, playing in place of Weston Nielsen, tossed a touchdown strike to Dallas Crescenzo to put the game out of reach for the Bears.
Bastrop’s defense forced three turnovers on the evening, including two fumble recoveries by Devan Frazier and an interception by Dwodney Thompson to help secure the win.
Bastrop (1-1) will finally take the Memorial Stadium field for the first time this season when they host Belton (2-0) on Friday night. VYPE Live will broadcast that contest.
