VYPE San Antonio Softball Rankings: Week of 4/12/21 presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors
13 Apr, 2021
Each week VYPE's own Joshua Waclawczyk and Scott Terrell sit down and take a look at the teams from each area and rank them based on their super-secret formula. Rankings of the top Baseball and Softball programs in the area are then broken up into 5A-6A, 1A-4A, and Private Schools. Will you agree with our rankings? Most assuredly not. After all, these are just our opinions and we are sure there are much smarter people out there that may have better opinions/rankings. So if you have your own thoughts on these rankings let us know on Twitter (@vypesatx) and Instagram (@vypesatx).
This week we got some movement from some teams, but the top stands pat, check out the rankings below!
VYPE SATX 5A-6A SOFTBALL TOP 10
We have one new team in this week's rankings, as Edison makes its debut. They probably could have been here sooner but records can be hard to come by. But a fan reached out to let us know (thanks Brandon Gonzalez) and so they climb from unranked to number eight. O'Connor falls to five after their loss to Warren this week as well. Could see some changes depending on how some district matchups play out.
VYPE SATX 1A-4A SOFTBALL TOP 10
As with the 5A/6A rankings we have one team dropping out and one joining the rankings. Natalia falls to seven after their loss to Lytle and Center Point falls out of the rankings after a loss to Harper with Devine entering the rankings.
VYPE SATX PRIVATE SCHOOL SOFTBALL TOP 5
It's really all about Cornerstone and Antonian it seems when it comes to the Private School San Antonio Softball rankings. We don't know if anyone will challenge them at this point.

The Grapevine Lady Mustangs and the Frisco Wakeland Lady Wolverines are set to face off in a semifinal match on Tuesday evening. Before they meet, let's take a look at what got each team to this level.
Grapevine Lady Mustangs
The Lady Mustangs have been a force to be reckoned with all season. Going nearly undefeated in district play to finish first in their district, Grapevine has posted a 24-2-2 overall record (13-1 in district) this season. The Lady Mustangs have posted big wins this season over the likes of Justin Northwest, Denton Ryan, Richland, Lake Dallas, and more.
Grapevine has outscored their opponents by 92 goals so far this season. After a 3-1 win over Amarillo last week, the Lady Mustangs are coming into the semifinals on a 16 game win-streak.
Wakeland Lady Wolverines
The Lady Wolverines have shown no signs of quitting as they've moved through this season. Wakeland has posted a 19-2-3 overall record with an 85% win percentage en route to one of their best seasons yet. This season, the Lady Wolverines have posted 16 shutout wins, four of which came in the playoffs.
After a hard-fought 2-1 win in double overtime over a previously undefeated Highland Park team last week, the Lady Wolverines are coming into the semifinals matchup on a high. Wakeland has a fire that has not been able to be tamed on a 12 game win streak.
What To Expect
Grapevine's defense has shown its strength all season. It has been no different in the playoffs. Both teams have shown that they have what it takes offensively. Both teams are sure to put up a fight for the right to play at the state championship game this weekend.
The match is set to begin Tuesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. at Bronco Stadium in Denton.

This week's Austin Softball rankings are below and we have some new additions, although Leander is still the team to beat. Check them out!
VYPE ATX 5A-6A SOFTBALL TOP 10
Similar to the boys 5A/6A rankings we have a #1 vs #2 matchup this week. Unlike the boys though, we are being a little selfish here. Georgetown Eastview did lose to Glenn last week and could have been moved below Georgetown, and if you argue that we wouldn't argue back. If Eastview can beat Leander we look like geniuses, if they lose, well then that number two spot will be up for grabs in the rankings headed to the playoffs. And yes Cedar Ridge did drop while Eastview didn't, but this has more to do with the number of games and the fact that we erroneously left Bowie out of our rankings last week (sorry Bowie!)
VYPE ATX 1A-4A SOFTBALL TOP 10
Only one change this week and that's at 10. We considered moving Lake Belton down but lost to a 6A opponent. The lone new team? Blanco, who sits first in their district with a win over 4th ranked Llano. A matchup this Friday with Llano could see them move up even more next week.
VYPE ATX PRIVATE SCHOOL SOFTBALL TOP 5
Veritas and Hill Country Christian move into the rankings this week with Hill Country Christian moving all the way to number one with the recent struggles of Brentwood and St. Dominic
