THE POWER RANKINGS: Weiss, Hendrickson pace initial Austin Softball Power Rankings
Even though the 2026 Texas High School Softball schedule is a week further along than baseball, there have still been precious few competitive district games played; the kind of head-to-head matchups that separates the powers from the pretenders. Because that leaves us with primarily overall records, program pedigree and a smattering of relevant games to go by, our first Softball Power Rankings is a bit all over the map.
Which is not to say that Tuesday (3/10) night’s early season showdown between #1 Hendrickson and #2 Weiss won’t provide volumes of information on both squads.
Overall, in fact, the 5A clubs seem to have gotten off to a better start than their 6A counterparts, with Dripping Spring being the highest 6A team represented at #3. One other curiosity: a number of teams that finished high in last year’s rankings are nowhere to be found so far this year. Conversely, a number of teams listed below never sniffed the Rankings in 2025. Such is the churn of high school sports.
Since we’ve got to start somewhere, here, then, is our first crack at the 2026 Austin area Softball Power Rankings.
