A Look Back
Opening the season with three-straight losses, it wasn't long before the Wolverines knew that they had to do something different if they wanted a fighting chance at posting a good season. Once the team was able to turn their season around, they put in the time and dedication that it took to make it a better run. During district play, the Wolverines posted a second-place finish in their district and fought hard into playoffs.
So far in playoffs, Frisco Wakeland has been able to shut down the attacks of some of the strongest teams in the metroplex. Unranked, Wakeland was forced to play top-teams in playoffs, but this never stopped them from keeping their composure and fighting until the final play was finished. Defeating state ranked teams like No. 2 Lufkin and No. 7 Forney, the Wolverines advanced to their third state tournament appearance.
Who To Watch
Carson Priebe leads the team in home runs with four this season. Priebe also leads in RBIs posting 29. He is hitting .345 and can be expected to make smart hits through the state semifinal matchup. Leading the team in hits is Addison Brown who has posted 37 total this season while scoring 30 runs and driving in 28 RBIs. Brown has recorded a .366 bating average so far this season. Holden Yaksick helps Priebe lead the defense from the mound. As the team's main source of attack on the bump, Yaksick has recorded a 9-2 record with a 1.96 ERA while Priebe has averaged 9.3 strikeouts per 7 innings.
What To Expect:
The team is going to have a run for their money with Georgetown. Georgetown is out for revenge with the goal of leaving this tournament as a state champion after finishing as the runner-ups in their only two state appearances (2015, 2019). With a slew of D1 pledges, Georgetown has the depth that it takes to leave as winners. However, the Wolverines still might have a couple of tricks up their sleeves as they attempt to stun baseball fans around the state. Playing a heavy-hitting team isn't new to Frisco Wakeland- the fact that they have been tested all season and have come out victorious should keep fans on the edge of their seats. Expect the Wolverines to put in the work in the state semifinals.
The game is expected to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas.
