King's Ridge Magazine: Coach Bob Ball

Matt Malatesta
May 10, 2021

THE BEST VALIDATION FOR A COACH IS… WINNING.

Third-year head coach Bob Martin enjoyed the fruits of his team's labor as King's Ridge had a historical season, going 20-6, 13-3 in conference play, and a run in the postseason.

"It's all about the work," the Region Coach of the Year said. "We've put in work here for three years. My first season we had four wins. The next season we had four wins. This year, it all kind of came together.

"All the hard work came to fruition. We were bigger, faster, stronger, and more skilled."

A pair of sophomores and All-Region selections led the way as guard Isaac Martin and post Micah Hoover provided a one-two punch. They are the future and will run Martin's fun brand of basketball.

"Micah was a double-double guy and Isaac does just a little bit of everything," he said. "Look, we are going to try and out-run you. We are going to shoot as many threes in transition as we can, and we are going to defend. We are like a bunch of mad hornets. We aren't very big, but we are scrappy."

King's Ridge ranked third in the state of Georgia in made three-pointers and that is Martin's mantra. "You have to be able to shoot to play here," he said. "That's my philosophy. We are going to shoot the three a lot."

Martin is also big on personal development. He wants his players to think beyond basketball.

"We have a legacy book that we hand out to them at the beginning of the season," he said. "We ask them what legacy they want to leave on the court, what legacy they want to leave as a friend, a son, a husband later on in life?

"We want to teach them how to just be good people."

With some three-pointers and playoff wins mixed in along the way.

THE STATUS: Final VYPE San Antonio GBB Rankings as the postseason looms

Matthew Ogle
13 Feb, 2026

Perhaps the most unsettling part of Wagner’s flawless start is that “perfect” hardly does it justice. The 5A Thunderbirds have imposed their will in virtually every outing, with few of their 32 victories coming down to the wire — aside from narrow decisions over Brennan, Mansfield and Plano East. Unbeaten through district play and battle-tested beyond it, Wagner enters the playoffs not just as a favorite, but as a clear standard-bearer for the region.

That said, 6A offers no shortage of firepower. Brennan (29-4) and Johnson (32-3) have built commanding résumés and sit squarely in the championship conversation, while Sotomayor and Judson add further depth to an upper classification defined by physicality and balance. Warren and Harlan, both navigating demanding district slates, round out a 6A group more dangerous than their records might suggest.

Whataburger Team of the Week: Kingwood Girls Soccer stays perfect as district race tightens

Matthew Ogle
13 Feb, 2026

Kingwood has firmly asserted itself as one of the hottest teams in Texas as the season moves beyond its midway point. Under head coach Adam Bell, the Lady Mustangs have surged to an unbeaten 14-0-1 start, stacking quality results against heavyweights like Stratford and district rival Atascocita in their first meeting of the winter. The consistency of that run has placed Kingwood squarely among the state’s most reliable contenders.

A recent 1-1 draw with Summer Creek (10-3-4) offered a reminder of the volatility that explains District 23-6A, where margins are thin and results rarely come easy. Still, Kingwood’s defensive profile continues to separate it from the field. Through the early portion of 2026, KHS has allowed just four goals, a telling indicator as they position themselves in the district title race.
