College Park takes down The Woodlands in instant classic
In the VYPE Game of the Week, College Park all but secured its district crown with a statement win over The Woodlands—a program that had long dominated the crosstown rivalry.
Under coach Kyle Coats, the Cavaliers have emerged as one of the most complete teams in Greater Houston. With dynamic playmakers on the perimeter, steady quarterback play, and a disciplined defense, College Park is proving it belongs in the conversation among the region’s best. The small 6A program has become a legitimate postseason threat.
Elsewhere, the Big Four of District 23-6A—North Shore, CE King, Summer Creek, and Atascocita—all flexed their muscle over the weekend. The Eagles’ win over Kingwood likely solidified their playoff standing, while North Shore and CE King continued their dominant runs.
In District 19-6A, No. 9 Katy continued to roll, staying unbeaten in league play with a win over Jordan. No. 12 Bridgeland knocked Waller out of the Top 25 after a decisive victory.
On the coast, Clear Falls jumps into the Top 25 after a 14-point win over No. 15 Clear Springs, while Shadow Creekreclaims the No. 25 spot after a solid bounce-back performance.
In Class 5A, the rankings held mostly steady, though West Fork (loss to PNG) and Dayton (loss to Huntsville) slipped. Fort Bend Marshall re-enters the Top 10, continuing its climb after early-season adversity.
The private school ranks remained unchanged, with top programs holding serve across the board.
With most teams past their bye weeks, the stage is set for a furious race to the regular-season finish line—and district titles, playoff positioning, and bragging rights all hanging in the balance.

Most of the teams in our Power Rankings won lopsided games this past week. Most of those that didn’t got smacked pretty good by another ranked team. That pretty much sums up Week 8.
One big exception was the marquee matchup of the week that saw top-ranked Lake Travis hold off 3rd-ranked Dripping Springs 14-7 in a taut game played at Drip. The Tigers still remain ensconced as the 3rd-ranked teams after such a quality loss; their first defeat of the season.
Sandwiched in between was #2 Westlake, who pulled away from 14th-ranked Bowie 14-7. Westlake hosts Lake Travis in the annual “Battle of the Lakes” Friday night.
Things were pretty lopsided after that, as the 4th through 9th ranked teams defeated their opponents by a combined 350-50 margin. McNeil held steady at #10 with a Bye to round out the Top 10.
Hutto, Vista Ridge and Austin LBJ logged impressive wins to maintain their positions while Round Rock climbed three spots to #14 – and more importantly climbed back into the District 25-6A playoff picture – with a solid win.
Bowie, Pflugerville and East View each slipped a spot after suffering tough losses to Top 10 opponents, while Cedar Park held steady at #18 after a clutch win. McCallum climbed back into the rankings with a nice road win while Hays rounds out the rankings because we think they’re the best of the rest.
While all eyes will understandably be focused on the Chaps and the Cavs, Vandegrift travels to Hutto to take on the Hippos in a massively important 25-6A showdown. We’ll sort it all out next week.
