New Liberty Hill Head Coach David Seaborn understands the stratospheric expectations and comparisons that will come when his team plays on a field named for that program’s legendary former head coach. In fact, Seaborn, who has stalked the Panther Stadium sidelines of Jerry Vance Field as an assistant coach and strength and conditioning coordinator the past four seasons, embraces them.
“What attracted me most to coaching in Liberty Hill was the incredible sense of community, the quality of the kids, and the rich tradition of competitive athletics,” Seaborn states. “It’s a place where football matters, values are strong, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact is real."
Liberty Hill football is unique, even by pigskin-crazy Texas standards. Coaches indoctrinate grade schoolers attending their first football camps to the vaunted Slot-T offense Vance rode to back-to-back state championships in 2006 and 2007, (barely missing a three-peat in 2008). It’s the same offense that Vance’s successor, the late Jeff Walker rode to four straight playoff appearances including a state semifinal berth in 2018; the same offense Kent Walker used to take the Panthers to the state championship game in 2021 following his brother’s tragic death from cancer and two more state semifinal appearances in 2022 and 2023.
With Kent Walker moving south to Blanco, the torch passes to the 43-year-old Seaborn. An Austin native and graduate of Austin LBJ, Seaborn played collegiate ball at Texas Southern University before playing arena ball with the Austin Turfcats and semi-pro football with the Austin Vipers.
Seaborn gained coaching experience in multiple sports and bided his time with stints at Travis, Vista Ridge and Jarrell before landing at Liberty Hill in 2021. Together with Sheralyn, his wife of 15 years, son David, Jr., a senior at Liberty Hill, and daughter Saniya, an 8th-Grader at Santa Rita Middle School, Seaborn is ready to embrace the weight of the expectations his team will face, both on and off the field.
"My expectation is to put the best product on the field each week by demanding excellence, discipline, and relentless effort,” Seaborn states. “But more importantly, my mission is to equip our young men to become the best future fathers, husbands, and positive contributors to their communities.
“Football is the platform; we coach hearts and build men for life."
