PREVIEW: Wildcat Showdown as Prosper Walnut Grove travels to Palestine

Prosper Walnut Grove has entered their first year of existence with great fan turnouts paired with strong outings on the field. As the team prepares to travel to Palestine to face off against another Wildcats squad, VYPE DFW takes a look at these two teams so far in the 2023-24 season:

Walnut Grove Wildcats (1-2)

Walnut Grove opened their varsity play with a booming 57-54 victory over reigning Arkansas 4A State Champion Malvern. Setting the tone that this group is not going to be quick to give up through any hurdles, the team continued their season with a home opener against reigning Texas 3A State Champion Gunter. Despite a 64-24 loss against the Tigers, the Wildcats remained focused on week three play. Last week, the Wildcats traveled to Celina where they put up an intense battle. Finishing the game in overtime, Walnut Grove eventually fell 38-35.

Led by Blake Miller, Luke Watkins, Frankie Masotto, Jack Jones, Lleyton Burghardt, Jax Stewart, Cole Loveland, and others, this team shouldn't be slept on. Despite being a brand new team and boasting two losses to their record, the Wildcats have already showcased a myriad of talented plays as well as a focus that is remarkable.

Palestine Wildcats (1-2)

The Palestine Wildcats have also had a two-loss start to their season. Opening week one with a close, hard-fought 40-26 battle against Nacogdoches, the team focused on week two where they posted a 46-24 loss against Jasper. Determined to better their record, Palestine recorded a dominating 42-7 victory over Livingston last week.

Reese Hargers, Jon Denman, Tidarion Crawford, Ty Brown, Jordan Walker, Dreylon Spurlock, and others should be watched in this matchup against Walnut Grove as the team looks to continue improving their record.

What To Expect

Ready to prove that they have what it takes to face-off against the best of the best, Walnut Grove can be expected to use their two-loss streak as a fire to power them to solid gameplay against Palestine. With the strength and ability to take down tough opponents, Walnut Grove fans can expect this team to put in the work necessary to overcome adversity.
