VYPE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO REWIND

It was a wild Week 1 of Texas High School Football and it's time to look back and recap the games we previewed this past Thursday. We had some dominating performances and what some would consider an upset. Let's take a look at the recaps below:

Game 1: San Marcos vs New Braunfels.

Recap: The quest to end the drought continues for San Marcos. The last time they beat New Braunfels was in 1982 and on Friday they looked to end that drought. However it was not meant to be as the Unicorns were able to capitalize on the Rattlers mistakes for a 49-30 victory. First half penalties hurt the Rattlers in the first half, twice being on the 2-yard line and not coming away with Touchdowns. New Braunfels for its own merit had a strong offensive showing, especially in the second half scoring on 4 consecutive drives to end the game. San Marcos looks to rebound this week versus San Antonio Holmes while New Braunfels travels to Seguin to take on the Matadors

Game 2: Westlake vs Temple

Recap: Westlake started its quest for a three-peat with a dominate win over Temple 54-13. Clemson commit Cade Klubnik threw 3 touchdowns in the first half to spark the Chaparrals while the Westlake defense held the Wildcats to only a field goal in the first half. Going into the season, the defense was the biggest question but if this game is any indication, Westlake is well on its way to being in the hunt for that rare 3-peat. Next up for Westlake will be a good early season test in Euless Trinity.

Game 3: Reagan vs Brennan

Recap: Reagan looked to do something it hadn't done in the pervious 2 seasons against Brennan; win. Unfortunately for Reagan the Brennan defense had other ideas. What was a a close contest between these 2 programs became a 21 point win thanks in larger part to 2 huge 4th quarter turnovers by the Bears defense which helped them put up 21 fourth quarter points. Reagan next takes on Steele while Brennan will have its eyes set on Schertz Clemens.

Game 4: Vandegrift vs Cedar Park

Recap: The QB combination of Brayden Buchanan and Reece Beauchamp was the right one for the Vandegrift as they handled business against rival Cedar Park 42-7. Buchanan threw for 3 and Beauchamp combined for 4 touchdowns (1 passing, 3 receiving). The game swung in the Vipers favor early with 2 Cedar Park first quarter turnovers and the Viper offense took care of the rest. The Timberwolves will look to continue the rebuild with a home game versus Cedar Ridge while Vandegrift will look to continue the winning streak with a home game against Killeen Ellison who upset Liberty Hill this past Friday.

Game 5: Judson vs DeSoto

Recap: Judson put San Antonio and the state of Texas on notice this past Friday with an impressive 35-28 victory over DeSoto. The Rockets scored 35 points first half, including 22 in the second, to build a lead and used their defense to hang on late in the game. DeSoto would claw back into the game getting to within 7 and had a chance to drive to tie after a late missed field goal by Judson. However, Judson would intercept a DeSoto pass to secure the victory. It doesn't get any easier for Judson as they next play Lake Travis while DeSoto will play Arlington Bowie
