VYPE U: Making Bounds at Districts
On Thursday, October 29, The Woodlands Cross Country competed against five other teams at the District Championship meet hosted by College Park. The Woodlands swept the meet with Girls Varsity scoring 18 points, Boys Varsity scoring 36, JV Girls scoring 16, JV Boys scoring 15, and Freshman Boys scoring 18. VYPE U was there to cover the event.
Girls Varsity took first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eight. They were led by junior Natasja Beijen and freshman Katarina Hodson and followed by Brooke Forbes, Gia Kurp, Sohalia Schoen, Ashley Sharer and Hannah Jane Miller. Second place went to the hosts College Park with a score of 49, followed by Grand Oaks with 94.
Boys Varsity took second, fourth, ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth. They were led by Kyle Easton and Joshua English and followed by Pablo Lesarrii, Brian Sewell, Caden Cymbala and Carlos Sanchez. College Park took second with a score of 51, followed by Conroe with 75.
JV Girls took 1-4 in the 3,200 meter race, led by junior Vivian Pfister and sophomore Lizzy Lawrence. College Park took second with a score of 45, followed by Grand Oaks with 84.
JV Boys took 1-6 in the 5,000 meter race, led by sophomore Straton Miller and junior Lucas Walthers. College Park took second with a score of 49, followed by Grand Oaks with 88.
Their next meet is Regionals, scheduled on November 10 in Dallas.
VYPE AWARDS: La Porte's Schoppe paces Houston's cross country scene
What a night it was as the VYPE Awards were held virtually on May 31. VYPE handed out awards to the top athletes in his and her respective sports.
Teams and coaches were also recognized. Here are the awards for Public School Cross Country.
GIRLS TEAM OF THE YEAR: Kingwood
GIRLS COACH OF THE YEAR: Jeremiah Dye
GIRLS RUNNER OF THE YEAR: Avery Clover, Atascocita
BOYS TEAM OF THE YEAR: The Woodlands
BOYS COACH OF THE YEAR: Juris Green, The Woodlands
BOYS RUNNER OF THE YEAR: Ryan Schoppe, La Porte
Ryan Schoppe won the Class 6A State Championship in 2019 posting a time of 14:14.02. Schoppe didn't stop there. In the fall, he placed first in every race he ran and then took 15th overall in the Nike Cross Nationals. Schoppe is signed to Oklahoma State.
