THE POWER RANKINGS: Bowie Boys; Westlake Girls top Final 2025 Austin area rankings
Even as Austin area Girls and Boys Basketball teams eased into the Christmas holiday like the rest of us, a few squads set down their egg nogg long enough to squeeze in a couple of intriguing games.
On the Boys side #3 Vandegrift gutted out an overtime road win over a solid SA Reagan squad while Lake Travis edged Cedar Park in a tough game that will ultimately help both ranked teams. Hendrickson, the only other ranked Austin area team in action, also notched a non-district win. While intriguing and valuable to the teams involved, none of these games altered the standings from last week.
Similarly on the Girls’ side, #7 Bowie and Lake Travis both scored nice non-district wins over Stony Point before Cedar Ridge upended Lake Travis in a tight possible playoff preview. It was the only game all week that impacted the rankings as the Lady Raiders’ win and their strength of schedule allowed them to rise several spots.
With so few teams in action, we combined the slightly tweaked rankings for the boys and girls below. That should refresh your memories heading into this week’s final round of tournaments, the resumption of district play, and the start of 2026.
With everyone hitting the hardwood again this week, next week’s rankings will get back to the nitty-gritty. But for now, have a safe and Happy New Year!
