GAME PREVIEW: Emerson looks to remain undefeated against Carrollton Creekview

While some teams haven't started district play, others are working through their district schedule already. Frisco Emerson travels to Carrollton this week for a second district match against Carrollton Creekview and looks to continue their undefeated streak this season. VYPE DFW takes a look at these two teams and what fans can expect:

Frisco Emerson Mavericks (5-0, 1-0)

The Mavericks are in their second season of play and continuing to showcase phenomenal athleticism on the field. During their inaugural season last year, Emerson went 9-2 overall (5-1 in district play) with a playoff appearance while outscoring their opponents by a combined 139 points. This season, the team is undefeated so far while outscoring their opponents by a combined 212 points already.

Through non-district play the team defeated Hillcrest (69-3), Wilson (41-21), Frisco Panther Creek (48-31), and Mount Pleasant (62-16). Last week, the team entered district play with an astounding 69-6 victory over the Denton Broncos. Led by Kylen Evans, Izzzy Bills, Kameron Lockhart, Kelton Wafer, Michael Hawkins, Matheus Machado, Agape Lawrence, Elijah White, Kennedy Breedlove, and others, this team is fast-paced and consistent once they step foot onto the field.

Carrollton Creekview Mustangs (0-5, 0-1)

After a winless season last year, the Carrollton Creekview Mustangs aren't off to the start that they were hoping for. The team battled hard through district play, but was unable to secure a victory. With a week one loss on the road to Granbury (43-12) followed by a home opening loss to Carrollton Newman Smith (56-14), the Mustangs have been doing what they can to get a footing on the season. Closing out their non-district play, Creekview lost back-to-back battles against Lake Worth (43-28) and Springtown (35-21). As they opened district play last week, the Mustangs fell 58-14 against Lake Dallas.

Led by Dre Richardson, Tre Johnson, Jett Chaney, Gerrian Smith, Jaden Kelley, Calvin Shelton, Isaiah Holliday, Jude Marlin, Nate Birdsall, Kamron Webb, and others, the team is searching for their first victory this season. Fired up and willing to do whatever it takes, they're going to go into Thursday ready to battle.

What To Expect

Emerson has been nearly unstoppable since the start of their program last season. Posting a 56-10 victory over Creekview last year, the Mavericks are going to try to get on the field, set the tone, and pull away quickly in Carrollton on Thursday night. Creekview, however, is going to want to put up a fight that is necessary at this point in the season. Looking for a battle and their first victory, the Mustangs are going to pull out all the stops. Emerson has the stamina and power to battle through this game without looking back, but do the Mustangs have the fire to snuff out Emerson?

Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. Thursday night at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton.
