5 Difference-makers in Week 2 of postseason; plus predictions

Coaches can coach all they want, but players win games.

Here are five players who will carry the weight of their teams on their shoulders in Week 2 of the postseason. Can they get it done or fall just short?

...

Kyron Drones, Shadow Creek, QB

Being the son of Coach Drones, who is on staff at Shadow Creek, you know his football IQ is off the charts. The junior QB had big shoes to fill after Jamarian George graduated, who led his team to the state finals. Drones is different, though. He can make every throw. He can extend plays with is feet, while keeping his eyes down field. At 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, he can escape the blitz. He has been offered by TSU, but other schools will be on him shortly. Drones will lead the Sharks back to the Regional Finals and beyond. But first, it's the Hutto Hippos he must slay.

LJ Johnson, Cy-Fair, RB

Biggest lights, biggest opponent. All eyes will be on the No. 3 Cy-Fair vs No. 1 Katy game this Friday. Katy RB Ron Hoff is a game-time decision. His counterpart at Cy-Fair is Big Time. Johnson is powerful, explosive and fast. The junior rushed for nearly 1,900 yards on the season and will get the ball all night against Katy. Katy will have a plan to stop him. They will load the box. Will he have enough room to run and can he make something out of nothing on some plays to move the chains?

Malik Hornsby, FB Marshall, QB

This is going to be a shoot-out with A&M Consolidated and Hornsby can't make any mistakes. He's going to have to do it with his feet and arm. A&M Consol is going to score points, can Hornsby keep up with them?

Logan Kyle, Tomball Memorial, WR

The Vandy-commit is going to earn his stripes against Westfield this weekend. The 'Stangs are physical and will try and bully teams who aren't ready for their style of play. Kyle had over 1,100 yards receiving this year and will need to get open against some fast and physical DBs. QB Colton Marwill better get the ball out of his hand quick to get Kyle in the open field. Let's see if Kyle can live up to the hype? Good thing is that coach Sam Parker was once at Spring, and faced Westfield every season.

JP Martin, Cypress Falls, RB

No one. I mean no one is talking about Cy Falls. The Eagles face Katy Tompkins, who has become everyone's favorite pick of late. But Falls went 10-1 on the season and Martin rushed for over 1,200 yards. He's a one-cut runner who does his damage up the middle. He's got good size for a junior and will be relied upon to keep Texas QB commit Jalen Milroe of Tompkins off the field. If he can help move the chains and eat up some clock, Falls has a shot.
