That Boerne-Alamo Heights clash should provide another intriguing measuring stick for two undefeated programs, while Champion’s perfect start remains intact following a 59-3 victory over Lehman. Madison (3-0) and Davenport (2-1) also return from their respective bye weeks, with both set to open district play.
The pecking order could shift quickly, with a stronger slate of closer, more compelling matchups on tap this week.

Smithson Valley (2-0), Johnson (2-0), Alamo Heights (3-0), and Brennan (2-1) each took care of business in commanding fashion, while Madison improved to 3-0 with a critical 24-16 victory over San Marcos. The win also propels the Mavs higher into the rankings this week.
Making their first appearance in the Top 10, the Champion Chargers (3-0) are looking every bit the team they were a season ago, when they advanced three rounds into the playoffs. Canyon also moves up the rankings after a 20-12 win over Brandeis, while Pieper rounds out the Top 10 despite a narrow 55-49 loss to Temple.
The road ahead gets tougher, and the margin for error gets smaller.

The 5A landscape is taking shape, too, with Smithson Valley (22-6) and Champion (21-5) quickly establishing themselves as the division’s benchmarks. New Braunfels (16-16), however, remains a formidable challenger capable of making things interesting on any given night.
Harlan (18-10), Brandeis (18-12), and Pieper (16-13) round out a deep 6A group, while Davenport (22-7) and Tivy (16-11) lead the charge among the 4A contenders.
With district races now underway, the hierarchy may be clearer — but there’s still plenty of volleyball left to rearrange it.
