Some of the featured standouts of the 2026-27 Pieper Warriors volleyball team.
The finish line is in sight, but the biggest shifts may still be ahead.
After a brief dip in the rankings, Harlan (25-10) has surged back to the top of the SATX power structure. Riding an eight-game winning streak, the Hawks reasserted their position with a five-set victory over rival Brennan (31-7). The Bears will get their shot to respond next Friday (10/23), when the regular-season finale could decide the District 29-6A title.
At 31-6 overall and unbeaten throughout the district schedule, Smithson Valley is making a strong case as the team to beat in Class 5A. Boerne (27-4) and Champion (27-7) aren’t far behind, locked in a footrace for the District 26-5A title. The Greyhounds hold the edge after their 3-1 victory in September, but the race remains very much alive.
Meanwhile, Pieper (24-14) is chasing its first district championship since moving up to 6A in this summer’s UIL realignment. The home stretch offers little room for error, highlighted by a rematch with NB Canyon, the only team to hand the Warriors a district loss in five sets. Still, Pieper stands on the brink of history, so the final push will come down to execution.

*** The second section shows the team’s current record (per MaxPreps as of 10/11/2026)

Others to Watch: Tivy Antlers (27-4A), Floresville Jaguars (29-4A), Churchill Chargers (28-6A), NB Canyon Cougars (27-6A), Alamo Heights Mules (26-5A), Steele Knights (27-6A), SA MacArthur Brahmas (25-5A), McCollum Cowgirls (26-5A), East Central Hornets (27-6A), Sotomayor Wildcats (29-6A)

Considering most teams handled business as usual while the rest were on a bye, it stands to reason that there’s little to no change in the SATX Top 10.
Easily the most noteworthy result of the past week, Tivy bested fellow 4A heavyweight Davenport in an offensive shootout for the ages, taking down the Wolves, 70-66. The victory pushes the Antlers to 5-0 and puts them firmly in control of District 13-4A D1.
Johnson thwarted a scrappy Brandeis unit, 38-25, improving its perfect start to 4-0 as the Jaguars prepare to host Roosevelt on Thursday night.
Smithson Valley (5-0), Brennan (5-1), Champion (6-0), and Alamo Heights (5-1) were among the teams to flex with one-sided victories, while Steele (3-1-1), Boerne (5-0), and Harlan (4-1) will return from the bye with a chance to make their mark.
With that in mind, here’s a look at where everyone stands and the matchups on tap this week.

There’s been no movement in the Top 5, but that doesn’t mean Week 6 arrives without its share of noteworthy results.
Steele is coming off an imposing 64-28 win against Pieper, while Boerne’s record remains unblemished after the Greyhounds secured a critical 38-31 victory against district rival Alamo Heights. The result adds another layer of intrigue to a competitive 13-5A Division II race, with both teams now positioned for what could be a fascinating stretch run.
Then there’s Champion, whose dominance is becoming increasingly difficult to overlook. The Chargers improved to 5-0 with a 61-32 win against Anderson, continuing what has been an impressive start to the campaign. Harlan also re-enters the Top 10 after defeating Marshall, 59-14, last week, with the Hawks now sitting at 4-1 heading into their bye.
The 4A ranks, meanwhile, set the stage for one of the week’s most intriguing matchups. Tivy (4-0) and Davenport (3-1) are both unbeaten in District 13-4A Division I and now prepare to clash Friday. With the district race still taking shape, the matchup could ultimately play a major role in determining the division champion.
