VYPE U: Shaun Walker Verbally Commits to McNeese State University
Shaun Walker is a senior at Manvel High School. Standing at 6'7 Walker has been known around the Houston area as a Center with an ability to score down low and possess great technique in the paint. Averaging 15.8 points,11.4 rebounds, and three blocks his junior season, Walker was a big part of the Mavericks team.
Recently, Walker verbally committed to McNeese State University to continue his academic and athletic career. VYPE U got to ask him a few questions about his commitment to McNeese and his plans for himself and his team this season. Here's what he had to say...
VYPE: What helped you make your decision to commit to McNeese State University?
WALKER: The Coaches played a big role, they showed me a lot of love from the start and I can also come in as a freshman and work for some big minutes.
VYPE: Making a decision to play at the next level can become extremely overwhelming. Who has helped keep you balanced throughout this whole process?
WALKER: My parents and I talked about committing there multiple times, then it came a time to pull the trigger and do it.
VYPE: Who would you say your biggest influence is?
WALKER: My parents for sure. Seeing them get up every morning and get things done for me and my sister I want to keep the Walker name going by being a hard worker as well.
VYPE: You've just conquered a big accomplishment. What other personal accomplishments do you want to achieve going into your senior season?
WALKER: Honestly, I don't have that many personal goals but to boost my averages from last year. I also want to become more of a leader.
VYPE: What are the goals you have for the team as a whole this season?
WALKER: Win our district and be playing in San Antonio in March.
VYPE: Lastly, you are going into your senior season. Do you have any pre-game rituals that you've been doing the last three years that you hope to continue this year?
WALKER: I go get stretched by the trainers then I take a nap and then I get stretched again.
With a couple of returning players including Azari Woods, Zaire Hayes, Chris Morris, and Shaun Walker the Mavs are expecting to have a great season this year. Walker and his teammates will definitely put on a show this year. After losing to Madison High School in the first round of the playoffs for the past three years, Walker's goal for himself and his team is to get past that bump in the road, and take it one game at a time until they reach the State Finals in San Antonio. The Mavs will play their first game on November 24th vs George Ranch High School.
