Could the Cinco Ranch Cougars be the top sleeper team in the city of Houston?
Coach Brett Wallace likes that his team has a low-profile but these guys can play. They are in a tough District 19-6A and likely won’t win the crown over Tompkins and Katy, but they will be ready for the playoffs.
So, who do we look out for?
First-teamer Zach Royse (UTSA) is the ace but will get help from Blake Hansen (outfield), Charlie Atkinson (first base), Gavin Rutherford, Austin Bonjonia, Logan Sosolik and District Newcomer of the Year Brock DeYoung (shortstop). All can work through innings but have secondary positions. They can also all hit the ball well.
Hansen has signed with Texas A&M. Junior Ranier Castillo should also be mentioned as one of the top position players for Cinco Ranch and could emerge as a district star in 2022.
