HEAT INDEX: Updated VYPE Houston Softball Rankings — Major Movement, New No. 1, Bridgeland Skyrockets

The stars of 2025-26 Bridgeland Softball

As evidenced by the current landscape, softball in the region is anything but predictable—which only makes the sport more compelling.
Barbers Hill’s pristine 22–3 record tells only part of the story. It’s the quality of opponents the Eagles have beaten—Lake Creek, Kingwood, Katy, Dripping Springs, Clear Springs, Liberty, Bridgeland, and Pearland—that reinforces expectations that this squad is poised to return to State. Those wins also propel BH to our new No. 1 ranking.
Bridgeland, meanwhile, has proven it deserves more than a “team to watch” designation. The Bears have surged to an 18–4 record, climbing into the Top 10 after a meteoric rise.
Summer Creek is making noise as well. Their recent 5–3 win over Kingwood, fueled by a late-inning surge, sends a clear message: the Bulldogs are a serious contender. Kingwood, however, remains resilient and will have opportunities to respond as the spring progresses.
Tomball (15–3) continues to meet—and perhaps exceed—expectations, while La Porte (13–3), Pearland (20–4), Deer Park (13–7), Friendswood (15–5), and Needville (21–2) have all earned attention with strong campaigns.
With midseason clarity now emerging, the temperature on Houston-area softball is rising—and the road to the playoffs promises more drama and surprises.

The Fastest Kid in America - CE King's Dillon Mitchell - dual-sport star making national headlines
19 Mar, 2026
Dillon Mitchell of CE King is a modern day Superman
By Alex Hinson
“Superman” wasn’t a nickname Dillon Mitchell asked for — it just fit.
A Little League coach saw it early.
The speed. The burst. The way he seemed to glide past everyone else.
“That kid can fly… he’s like Superman.” And the name stuck.
Now, Dillon Mitchell is becoming a household name as one of the fastest athletes in America.
The C.E. King High School sophomore recently turned heads nationwide, clocking a wind-aided 9.88 in the 100 — a time that lit up social media.
He broke the internet.
On the football field, the offers are pouring in. Mitchell is already one of the most coveted wide receivers in the country, helping lead C.E. King to a State Finalist finish in Class 6A Division II.
Athleticism runs in the family.
His father was part of the famed “Wrecking Crew” defenses at Texas A&M Aggies football in the 1990s, while his brother carried on the legacy at Texas State Bobcats football and was a state champion on the track.
Dillon Mitchell’s favorite movie is… the Notebook. He’s a huge Rom-com fan.
Honestly, what’s not to love about CE KIng’s Dillon Mitchell.
