So much for looking ahead.
With a huge showdown against Round Rock looming, the Vandegrift Vipers could have easily looked past a struggling Westwood squad. Instead, Vandegrift scored on a long Miles Teodecki-to-Brock Chilton pass in the 88th second of the game to set the tone. The Vipers added three more touchdowns in the first quarter alone -- a Brendan Fournier rushing touchdown; a Teodecki-to-Marcion Williamson scoring pass; and Caleb “Cj” Mooring’s second Pick Six in as many weeks – to lead 28-0 after the first quarter.
Fournier (9-83, 2 TDs) scored again in the second quarter, followed by a Kent Sullivan 1-yard plunge to send the Vipers to the locker room leading 42-0.
Teodecki (7-11, 259 Yds., 3 TDs, INT) found George Farley on an 84-yards scoring strike on the Vipers’ first series of the second half to close out the scoring. Meanwhile, Vandegrift’s Silver Strike defense held the Warriors to 181 yards of offense – most of that against the reserves – while notching its third shutout of the season.
The Vipers (7-0 in District 25-6A, 8-1 overall) host Round Rock (6-1, 8-1) in Friday’s VYPE Central Texas High School Football Game of the Week, simulcast on 102.7 FM ESPN Austin radio. Westwood (1-6, 1-8) will close out the season looking to throw a wrench into Vista Ridge’s playoff plans in a game we’ll also broadcast on VYPE.
