THE POWER RANKINGS: Glenn sweep propels Lady Grizzlies atop of Austin area Girls Basketball
Despite the chaos Mother Nature caused last week, the boys had a relatively calm slate of games. The same cannot be said on the girls’ side, which featured epic clashes between league-leading Liberty Hill and Glenn in 25-5A, along with Vista Ridge and Vandegrift in 25-6A.
In the case of the former, Glenn earned a season sweep over Liberty Hill with a clutch win in the Panthers Den. As a result – and with some help from 25-6A action -- the Lady Grizzlies climbed to the top of the Rankings for the first time this year. As for that 25-6A clash, the Lady Vipers handed the Lady Rangers their first district defeat and earned a split on the season. There’s a good chance they’ll play the rubber match in the post-season.
So, it’s now Glenn, Vista Ridge, Liberty Hill, Vandegrift and Round Rock in the top 5 with Georgetown and Bastrop right behind them. Or I could draw those names out of a hat. Does anyone else wish we could erase the 5A/6A divide and let these great teams battle it out on the court?
Further down, Lake Travis cracked the Top 10, propelled by a Lady Cavs’ sweep over Del Valle and previously ranked Dripping Springs and combined with Cedar Park’s tough home loss to Rouse.
5A Anderson tucked into the Rankings behind Austin High for their first appearance of the year.

THE POWER RANKINGS: Vista Ridge, Liberty Hill remain on top of Austin-area Girls Basketball
With convincing wins over #5 Round Rock and Stony Point, Vista Ridge crept ever closer to an undefeated District 25-6A title and remained atop this week’s Power Rankings. Their rematch at #4 Vandegrift – who also dispatched Stony to move up a spot -- will be their toughest remaining test. Sandwiched between the 25-6A powers, Liberty Hill and Glenn both swept last week and remain on a collision course Friday night (1/24).
Further down the Rankings, Bowie turned away Lake Travis for a second time to creep closer to Westlake in the Rankings and in the District 26-6A race. After a slow start, a rebuilding Austin High joins those three 26-6A teams and enters the Rankings for the first time this season.
