VYPE Recruit Scoop: Is Regents' Murphy the next great Austin QB?
Austin, Texas has been home to many great quarterbacks like Westlake’s Nick Foles, Drew Brees and Cade Klubnik; Lake Travis’ Baker Mayfield and most recently Dripping Springs quarterback Austin Novosadd.
Now that a new season is almost upon us, there is a new quarterback that looks to be the next big thing hailing for the Regents School of Austin.
Class of 2026 quarterback Quinn Murphy is a fast rising recruit out of the Austin area, who has picked up eight offers this summer from Michigan, Louisville, Houston, UCF, UTSA, UNLV, Miami and SMU.
VYPE caught up with Murphy about his recruitment and more.
The quarterback position is one of the most important positions if not the most important position at any level of football. Many young quarterbacks have someone they model their game after or someone who makes them want to play the position.
For Murphy, it’s one of the best quarterbacks to ever touch a college football field.
“Tim Tebow was the biggest role model in the history of sports for me," he said. "Both the football side and his Faith.”
Picking up offers as a freshman going into your sophomore year is an impressive feat especially at the quarterback position. So what’s it been like so far?
“It’s been really good,” Murphy said. “All this stuff goes away when the season starts. Then it’s about going 10-0 and winning the title.”
Murphy has been busy camping this summer and has had a plethora of schools reach out to him since receiving some offers.
“I’ve been hearing from a lot of Big 10 and SEC schools like Florida, Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Alabama and a few others,” he said.
Talking about former Austin quarterback greats with Murphy he plans to follow in their footsteps from high school to college and ultimately the NFL.
“That’s the ultimate goal, to be the best I can be at all levels.”
What’s the goal for his upcoming junior year?
“Last year, we came up short. This year the goal is to win it all, the team is going to do everything possible to make that happen,” he said. “End the season with a State Championship.”
Austin, you’ve been put on notice the next quarterback great Quinn Murphy is primed for a big season.
