VYPE Live High School Football Playoffs: Port Neches vs. Fort Bend Marshall
The Fort Bend Marshall Buffs (9-1) roll into the state playoffs Friday night against Port Neches-Groves (7-3) Friday, and you can hear the game live on vypefortbend.com (Roger Smith and Patrick Kinnick announcing) starting at 7:15PM. This clash is on the Buffs' home field (Hall Stadium in Missouri City), and the same two teams met in Baytown in the 3rd round last year. Marshall won that one, 53-14, ending the magnificent high school career of PN-G quarterback Roschon Johnson, who's now the 2nd-leading rusher for the Texas Longhorns as a true freshman.
Marshall reached the state championship game in 2018, where the Buffs suffered their only loss (vs. Aledo) in a 15-1 season. QB Malik Hornsby (2,205 combined rushing and passing yards, with 20 TD throws and no interceptions) takes the snaps for the overwhelming Buffs' offense, and the best among several weapons available to him is RB Devon Achane. Achane has gained 1,259 yards in 2019, scored 21 TDs and averages 13.68 yards per carry. The Buffs' offense churns out 401 yards per game, and the defense allows only 170.
