VYPE 2022 Volleyball Preview - THE CONTENDERS: Pearland Dawson Eagles
Consistency is the name of the game for Pearland Dawson. Under the direction of fifth-year coach Lauren Leth (313 career wins), the Eagles have been to the Regional Semifinals for five-straight seasons. That is impressive.
Now, can they get back to the Regional Finals for the first time since 2018 and maybe the State Tournament for the first time ever?
With four starters back, Dawson could be right back in the mix. Led by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Beach)-commit Bryce Ranney (255 kills), who was a first-team, all-district pick, and second teamers Ava Kennon (236 kills, 61 blocks) and Carter Galley (275 digs), the Eagles could make that deep run again.
Ouachita Baptist University- commit Kailey Thedford is another name to remember. The Eagles will have to find a setter to get the offense going and that could be Addison Moss.
AT THE RIM: Windsor to lead No. 8 Pearland Dawson into 2021 season
No. 8 Pearland Dawson Eagles
Coach Mark Barre has built tremendous consistency at Dawson over the years. Last season, he helped lead the Eagles to the Regional Semis where they lost a heartbreaker 55-54 to Atascocita.
Dawson and Shadow Creek shared the District 23-6A title going 13-1 and splitting their district matchups. Not much will change this year as the Eagles and Sharks will battle for supremacy.
One of the most overlooked players in Houston is 6-foot-7, two-time, first-teamer Hayden Windsor. He can shoot the lights out and is explosive in space. Windsor can put people on posters.
Jaden Miller is a true point guard and should be even better as a junior. Tyree Davis was an honorable-mention selection at guard and watch for Larry Lyons, who will pick up some slack by the departed seniors.
