Lamar Texans are always dangerous
HISD's best No. 15 Lamar has star power in Behan brothers
15. Lamar Texans (6A)
Lamar went 22-11-1 overall a year ago and reached the Regional Semifinals. David Munoz has 260 career coaching wins entering this season.
The reigning District Champions bring back Texas-commit and District 18-6A MVP Lawson Behan, who stars at shortstop and on the mound.
Co-Offensive MVP Alex Bard is back at second base. Centerfielder Kyle Behan is coming off an 18-6A Newcomer of the Year performance Other key returners include first-team, all-district picks Kalino LeHaun (utility) and Body Bromley (LHP).
THE LAYUP LINE: No. 7 Wheatley Wildcats
Wheatley is coming off yet another impressive endeavor, concluding the year 23-3 and advancing two rounds deep into the postseason.
David Burrell steps into Year No. 6 as head coach, focused on keeping the program on a championship trajectory.
The Wildcats bring back the majority of their core lineup, led by District 20-4A MVP Jamie Solomon (Sr. G), who averaged 24 points per game, along with three assists, three rebounds, and four steals. Solomon also reached the 1,000 career point milestone last season, solidifying her status as one of Wheatley’s all-time scorers.
Joining her is Caria Thomas (Jr. PG), last year’s District Newcomer of the Year and first-team, all-district selection, who posted an equally notable statline (17 ppg, 6 rpg, 6 apg, 6 spg). Key contributors also include first-teamer Symone Johnson (Jr. G) and honorable mention Aniya Simmons (Sr. PF).
For Wheatley, success this season will be measured not just in victories, but in the development of its young leaders, the cohesion of its lineup, and the ability to rise to challenges together.
