Wild Week 11 Shakes Up VYPE Austin UIL 6A Rankings; Area Ready For Postseason
The final week of the 2019 Texas high school football regular season was a memorable one because a lot of teams were playing for playoff spots and postseason positioning. The Austin area was no exception, so we updated the VYPE Austin UIL 6A Top 10 rankings. Check out the full list of ranked teams and honorable mentions.
No. 1 Austin Vandegrift (10-0): The Vipers used a 20-17 win against Round Rock Stony Point to extend their regular season win streak to 20 games, grab a second straight UIL 13-6A title and earn Drew Sanders' 100th victory as head coach. (Previous: #1)
No. 2 Lake Travis (9-1): The Cavaliers won their final nine regular season games, including a 49-14 district finale victory against Austin Anderson. (Previous: #2)
No. 3 Westlake (9-1): The Chaparrals are ready for UIL 6A bi-district test Cibolo Steele after outscoring Hays, Austin Anderson and Austin Bowie by a combined 177-14 margin in the final three games of district play. (Previous: #3)
No. 4 Cedar Park Vista Ridge (8-2): The Rangers are one of the area's best stories after finishing 2018 with a 1-9 record, so they're a team to watch in the UIL postseason. (Previous: #4)
No. 5 Hays (8-2): The Rebels are ready for the UIL postseason battle after bouncing back from a 14-point deficit in a 56-42 win against Del Valle and ending their only losing streak of 2019. (Previous: #7)
No. 6 Round Rock Stony Point (7-3): The Tigers nearly upset Austin Vandegrift in a 20-17 district finale loss, and are representing a loaded UIL 13-6A district in the postseason. (Previous: #5)
No. 7 Round Rock Cedar Ridge (6-4): The Raiders won a 77-69 shootout against Round Rock Westwood to earn a spot in the UIL postseason. (Previous: #8)
No. 8 Round Rock (6-4): The Dragons started the 2019 season with a 6-1 record, but missed the UIL postseason because of a season-ending three-game losing streak and a heartbreaking 41-38 loss to Cedar Park Vista Ridge in the district finale. (Previous: #6)
No. 9 Austin Bowie (5-5): The Bulldogs suffered a 63-0 district finale loss against Westlake, but are still representing UIL 25-6A in the postseason because of a 22-21 victory against Austin Anderson earlier in the season. (Previous: #9)
No. 10 Austin Anderson (6-4): The Trojans aren't headed to the UIL postseason because of a season-ending two-game losing streak, but can build on its 2019 winning record in future years. (Previous: #10)
Others: Del Valle (5-5), Pflugerville Hendrickson (4-6), Austin High (4-6), Round Rock Westwood (4-6) and McNeil (3-7)
