Fresh Faces: William Robertson plans to elevate the Patriots
The East View Patriots have seemingly been stuck in 4th gear throughout most of their existence. They’re rarely terrible, nor have they really had an exceptional season. Instead, they are usually right in the mix, battling on the playoff bubble.
New Head Coach William Roberston plans to change that.
“East View hasn’t made the playoffs since 2020; has never won double digit games, and has never played beyond the 3rd round,” Robertson bluntly acknowledges. “We expect to best all three of those marks this season.”
Robertson can base that prediction on a quarter century of coaching -- including 17 seasons as a defensive coordinator -- all around the state. A 47-year-old Minnesotan who played for Eagan High School in Vikings-land, Robertson coached seven years at Stony Point, seven at Pflugerville Connally and another four at Leander before moving north and coaching at Prosper for five seasons.
Together with his wife, Kim, daughter Payton (17) and son Walker (12), Robertson returns to the Austin area after spending the past two seasons at A&M Consolidated.
He takes over from Mike Wall who led East View to a 5-5 mark last year, and 10-20 overall in his three years at the Georgetown school. Robertson knows that’s a decent foundation upon which he can build.
“I know the area and the potential for growth (at East View),” Robertson points out. “I know the principal (and) know the AD. The facilities are very good.”
While “very good” would undoubtedly be a step in the right direction for East View, especially if the Patriots can maintain that consistently, Robertson expects much more from his first East View Patriots team.
“We expect to play football in December this year,” he declares. “We expect to build a championship caliber program that can compete at the highest level.”
In other words, William Robertson wants the East View Patriots to finally kick it into high gear.
