THE RANKINGS: No. 21 Cy Woods returns with "Grit"
ALLYSON BROWN ENTERS YEAR TWO OF LEADING CYPRESS WOODS.
In 2024, the Wildcats went 31-13 overall and reached the Bi-District round of the playoffs.
Four starters return for Brown, including Colorado School of Mines-commit Caroline Walden. The first-team, all-district pick racked up 433 kills, 37 aces and 35 blocks last season. Walden earned a GHVCA Postseason Second Team nod and was named to the AVCA Phenom Watch List.
Other key returners include Addison Gibson (573 digs, 30 aces; first-team, all-district), Savannah Nelsen(215 kills, 81 blocks, 31 aces; first-team, all-district) and Kennedy Reddin (146 kills, 27 blocks, honorable mention, all-district).
Also watch out for Oluwamayokun Orundami.
Keys to success for Cy Woods in 2025 include having an untouchable defense and the offense being a threat. Brown wants her team to play with “Grit” in 2025.

THE WILDCATS: Cy Woods' Neumann And Sullivan Looking To Lead Team To Deep Playoff Run
Following a historic 2022-23 season, in which they reached the UIL-6A State Semis, the Wildcats experienced some bad luck in their most recent endeavor, as they were narrowly defeated by Klein Oak in the opening round of last year’s playoffs.
While they did lose a few veterans to graduation, third-year coach Phil Schwarz still has plenty of star-power to propel Cy Woods further this spring. The team’s bullpen will be a major strength, with Cameron Neumann (Sr. RHP) back for his senior year, after going 7-3 overall in 2024, with a 1.21 ERA and 64 strikeouts, which earned him first-team, all-district honors.
The reigning District Newcomer of the Year, Ross Sullivan (Jr. SS/RHP), will be another dependable option on the mound, considering the numbers he put up a year ago (7-1, 0.92 ERA, 57 Ks). Leading the Wildcats lineup will be a trio of outfielders: Stuart Myers (second-team), J.T. Darden (first team), and Logan Johnson.
Other notable returning players include Beau Schaper (Sr. 1B) and Raul Martinez (Sr. 3B).
