Maroon and gold balloons tied to the table, a cake and flowers on the one next to it, something was being celebrated inside Cypress Creek's high school gym on Wednesday.
It wasn't a birthday or a retirement party but rather a celebration of new beginnings for a pair of basketball players - Nate Martin and Morgan Hill.
This day was theirs. A day they would never forget, their National Signing Day.
Start with Hill, who is a part of VYPE's preseason No. 1 girls basketball team in Houston. The senior last year averaged 8.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game for the Cougars. Of the 40 games she played, 15 she finished with double digit points and recorded eight double doubles. Hill's best game of the year last season came against Spring Woods, in which she scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.
On Wednesday, Hill signed her National Letter of Intent to play her college basketball at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

The other signee of the day was Nate Martin of the Cy Creek men's basketball team.
Martin, who was injured some of last season, played in 18 games for the Cougars and still averaged 9.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Martin is fully healthy heading into this year and will be a force down in the paint.
On Wednesday, Martin officially signed with Texas State to continue his basketball career.
Officially a Bobcat. Can't wait to get it started in San Marcos ! Thanks for everyone who came out to support & for supporting me along this journey ! ❤️ pic.twitter.com/Pz7dzawhB4
