Celina has posted an incredible season. The Lady Bobcats went undefeated (12-0) in district play while posting only one loss the entire season with a 41-1 overall record. Their only loss came against an extremely competitive Gunter squad who finds themselves in the UIL Class 3A title game.
The defense has played outstandingly as the Lady Bobcats have lost only nine sets the entire season. Of Celina's 41 wins, 36 of them have been complete sweeps. Coming into the state semis on a 20-game win-streak definitely has the Bobcats ready to show everything they have on the court. Not only has the defense played incredible, but this Bobcats offense has proven to be nearly unstoppable the entire season. Fans can expect to see a strong Lady Bobcats squad that is ready to advance.
Needville has posted a great season so far finishing at the top of their district with an undefeated district record (12-0). Posting big wins over the likes of Dobie, Cypress Lakes, Huntsville, and more, the Bluejays shouldn't be counted out as they enter the State Semifinals.
Needville has strong athletes who play great on both the front and back rows. Fans can expect to see the team come out ready to put up a fight in order to do everything they can to advance to the state championship match. With a great group of seniors, the team is poised and ready to show just what kind of muscle they have on the court.
Needville is a strong team and will be one of the toughest opponents Celina has seen all season. Celina will need to go into this match without getting too far ahead of themselves or too into their own heads about it. Both teams are going to come out fast-paced and attempt to stay neck-and-neck in scoring. Celina has what it takes to take down Needville, but they will need to stay on their toes and energized to complete the win.
Midlothian Heritage and Celina are set to face off in the UIL Class 4A State Semifinals early Tuesday evening. Before the teams hit the pitch, let's take a look at what got them to this point.
The Midlothian Heritage Lady Jaguars posted an undefeated district season for district championship bragging rights. On the season, the Lady Jags have lost only one game in pre-season to a strong Nolan Catholic squad.
With a 96% win percentage, Midlothian Heritage topped Argyle last week in a 1-0 victory. The Lady Jags will enter the semifinals match on a 14 game win streak
The Celina Lady Bobcats have been sneaking up on their opponents all season. With a second place finish in their district and a 24-1-1 overall record (12-1-1 in district play), the Lady Bobcats have a 94% win percentage.
With a 4-1 win over Henderson last week, the Lady Bobcats are coming into the semifinals on a five-game win streak. In four of the last five games, Celina has shut out their opponents (18-0 over Ferris, 13-0 over North Dallas, 12-0 over Caddo Mills, and 7-0 over Bullard) outscoring them by 53 goals collectively.
Both teams have the drive to succeed that hasn't been snuffed all season. Though Midlothian Heritage might seem to have the upper hand as a favorite, fans shouldn't sleep on a competitive Celina squad. It's going to be a tough, physical match that comes down to whichever team strikes early.
The game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 at Dragon Stadium in Southlake.
