THE TIER LIST: VYPE DFW Preseason Baseball Rankings; Grapevine, FMHS among early favorites
Despite what the weather might suggest, the spring edition of the UIL calendar has officially arrived, marking the midpoint of February.
With fans heading back to the ballpark, a new season of intrigue begins, and the race to Dell Diamond is underway.
In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, our early predictions favor the Grapevine Mustangs. Coming off a historic season in which they secured their second UIL-5A State Championship (the first since 2016), Grapevine enters 2025 with high expectations.
Just behind them are the Lucas Lovejoy Leopards, who made program history last spring by reaching the 5A Final for the first time in their 18-year existence. With a roster loaded with returning talent, Lovejoy is poised to make another deep postseason run.
Flower Mound, aiming for a third consecutive State Tournament appearance, is another contender to watch. Meanwhile, Rockwall-Heath (2021 State Champions) and Southlake Carroll (2022) are eager to reclaim their respective titles.
In addition, programs like Argyle, Boswell, and Rockwall round out the list of preseason heavyweights.
As we look ahead to another thrilling season on the diamond, here are VYPE’s top teams to watch as the 2025 season begins.

Two of those teams include the Grapevine Mustangs and the Argyle Eagles who are looking to take each other down in order to punch their ticket to the UIL Baseball State Tournament. VYPE DFW takes a look at these two programs as they prep for their series!
Grapevine Mustangs (36-4, 13-1)
A nearly flawless season has seen the Mustangs outscored their opponents by a combined 224 runs so far this year. Led by the likes of Brenton Lee, Dasan Hill, Drew Finnigan, Brady Boozer, and more, the Mustangs set their tone of dominance during their non-district schedule as they took down the likes of Cigarroa, Westside, Del Rio, Dobie, Permian, Timber Creek, Aubrey, V.R. Eaton, and more.
Heading into district play, it came as no surprise when the team finished at the top of the district with victories over Argyle (11-1), Richland (5-2, 5-2), Denton (3-0, 10-0), Denton Ryan (10-0, 7-1), Birdville (11-0, 3-0), and more. Argyle Eagles (29-6-2, 11-3)
Adapting and overcoming challenges throughout the season, the Eagles have found themselves on the cusp of the state tournament. Led by the likes of Brayden Rosckes, Colton Roquemore, Nathaniel Bruce, Barron Mannis, Grady Emerson, Alex D'Angelo, Grady Emerson, and more, Argyle put up plenty of non-district victories over Longview, Spring Hill, Boswell, Hallsville, Walnut Grove, and more en route to district play.
Focus and determination found the Eagles defeating tough district opponents like Lake Dallas (7-2, 6-3), Richland (3-0, 3-1), Colleyville Heritage (1-0), Denton Ryan (4-2, 3-0), Denton (8-0), and more as they finished second in their district standings-- just behind Grapevine. With the drive to fight forward, Argyle has continued their mission in the playoffs while defeating Cleburne (5-1, 2-1), Arlington Heights (4-3, 4-3), Aledo (2-0, 5-0), and Wylie (12-0, 5-4) in just two games each series.
What To Expect
Both teams are polished and ready to take on the other. Having already seen each other this season-- each boasting a victory over the other-- this is going to be a tough series that you aren't going to want to miss. Grapevine has a knack of scoring as often as possible while Argyle is prepared to shut down the Mustangs' advances with their smooth and talented defense. Be sure you catch these two teams in action this weekend in their regional finals matchup!
