PJ HAGGERTY DISTINCTLY REMEMBERS THE FIRST BASKET HE EVER MADE.
The Crosby senior was three years old in a park with his father Patrick. Shooting on the court with a 10-foot rim, Haggerty remembers the exact moment.
"I looked up, I just threw it up and it went in," Haggerty said. "That's probably the most exciting basket I've ever scored."
What he considers his favorite basketball moment is, of course, saved in video version at the Haggerty home. But it is far from his biggest accomplishment.
That came when he verbally committed to TCU in June. It's a huge accomplishment playing Division I and his dream since the end of his sophomore season.
"It was big. I told my family, I think TCU was the best fit for me," Haggerty said. "They just told me everything I wanted to hear. I'd be able to play if I came in and worked hard."
Haggerty, who is a fan of Los Angeles Laker LeBron James, Atlanta Hawk Trae Young and Dallas Maverick Luka Doncic, has seen his game improve over the years.
From his defense to ball-handling and passing to just getting physically bigger and stronger, Haggerty has become the best player in the city for the Class of 2022.
If you ask him? It's not even a debate.
"I feel like I'm the best player in the city of Houston," Haggerty said. "No doubt."
The 6-foot-3 combo guard, who enters the season as VYPE's No. 1 preseason boys basketball player, has just "worked and trusted the process" to get to this point.
He leads Crosby, which was in the Regional Quarterfinals a year ago, with confidence and a "lead-by-example" mantra. And with this being his senior season – there's only one box left to check.
"I'm going to try and get to State," Haggerty said. "It's my last year. I've got to give it all."
