VYPE DFW Poll: Which Team is the Next Slidell?

If you read that headline, you might be trying to jog your 'member berries as to who or what is a "Slidell." Slidell took home the 1A boys basketball state title after the program had gone 75 years without another state crown (1943). Slidell's championship was our No. 4 moment of the Top 10 Sports Moments of the 2018-19 sports year last year. It was also part of a DFW takeover in boys hoops as five of the six UIL titles came to the Metroplex.

It got me thinking: Outside of area teams that have never won a state title, what is the longest state title drought in the DFW-area, and who is in the best position to end its state title drought?

The easy answer for the first question is Denton, which last won a title in 1935 (84 years). There are two more teams in with 70-plus year droughts: Dallas Sunset (75 years) and Fort Worth Paschal (70).

The second part is not so easy, which is why we're throwing it out to the fans. The criteria is not having won a state title this millennium (from 2000 or earlier). There are a few teams that won titles in the 2000s, inside of 20 years doesn't seem "droughty" enough.

There are 13 teams that last won a state title from 1999 and earlier: Crowley, Dallas Hillcrest, Dallas Jefferson, Dallas Sunset, Denton, Ferris, Fort Worth Paschal, Krum, Lake Highlands, Lake Worth, Pottsboro, Southlake Carroll and Waxahchie.
