VYPE 2022 Volleyball Preview - THE DARK HORSES: Friendswood Mustangs

Friendswood is another one of those teams not to mess around with. The Mustangs went 36-10 overall a year ago and reached the Regional Quarterfinals. With six starters returning, Friendswood should be penciled in for a seventh consecutive trip to the postseason.

Five seniors are garnering college interest, which shows the talent level on seventh-year coach Sarah Paulk’s squad. Paulk is 259-117 in nine seasons as a head coach.

The District 22-5A Setter of the Year Megan Hubbard (1,150 assists) returns. First-team, all-district picks Cierra Pesak (244 kills, 417 digs) and Andi Vaught (542 digs) are also back in the huddle. Second teamers Isabella Thompson (.303 hitting pecent, 100 blocks) and Meghan Donoughue (48 aces, 190 kills, 330 assists) are also key returners.

Don’t forget Sydney Gibson, who got some valuable experience as a freshman at outside hitter. Keys to success in 2022 include “establishing our middles, blocking and a balanced offense” for Friendswood.
