TAYLOR'S IT-GIRL: Outland Is An Elite Busy-Body

YOU CAN’T HELP BUT TO LIKE ALIEF TAYLOR’S SAVANNAH OUTLAND.

She’s a vibe, wrapped in hard work and focus. And, she’s everywhere around the Lions' den.

“If I’m not doing something, I feel like I’m not doing anything,” she laughed. “I love to keep active and when I’m involved or volunteering, it makes me feel good. I’ve met so many great people doing so many different activities.”

Outland is in the National Honor Society, she’s the secretary of the FFA Chapter, she pitches for the softball team and she’s also the school mascot.

“First, I love animals so that is why I got into FFA,” she said. “I wanted to be a vet, but I’ve changed my career path a little. I don’t raise animals, but I just love being involved with them. I do the rabbit tours with little kids and I dress up like a rabbit, because I have mascoting experience.”

A few years back, Outland heard a message from above.

“I was listening to the announcement about being the mascot, and I went for it,” she said. “I’ve really gotten into it. I’ve also interned for the Space Cowboys (Astros minor league team) with their mascot. She has been great. She’s given me advice on improving my performances, she helped me repair and sew my outfit and has been a great mentor. I’ve been able to meet other mascots like Orbit (Astros), Toro (Texans) and Diesel (Dynamos). What an experience.”

While she cheers on her classmates, they cheer for her as well as the ace of the softball team.

“I’ve always been athletic… it comes from my mom and brother because they both played college sports,” she said. “I’m a competitor, but I also love bringing a positive energy. This is my last season, so I want to help out our new players and be that mentor for our new pitcher too.”

When she’s blowing off steam from all of her other activities, Outland knows how to have fun.

“I love hanging out with friends,” she said. “I love to country dance. I mean, I love it. That, karaoke and going to festivals.”

So, what about in the classroom for this wiz kid?

“I talk a lot, so English is my best subject by far,” she laughed. “I do like history, learning about what happened in the past. I’ve changed my career path to aviation, so I would love to go to Air Force. If not, I think I will attend Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.”

It’s no shock that Outland has a plan. Her calendar will continue to be busting at the seams.
