PLAYOFFS PREVIEW: Flower Mound vs Richardson JJ Pearce

After a tough season, both Flower Mound and Richardson JJ Pearce volleyball are ready to face each other in the second round of the Texas High School Volleyball Playoffs. VYPE DFW takes a deeper look at both teams' seasons as well as what fans can expect out of the teams as they head into the Thursday night playoffs pairing:

Flower Mound Lady Jaguars (31-7, 12-2)

Beginning their season with an incredible run through non-district play, the Lady Jaguars posted a 19-5 record throughout non-district play. Beginning the season with a sweep over Allen, the Lady Jaguars powered through big moments with victories over other strong competitors such as Denton Guyer, McKinney North, Hockaday, Northwest V.R. Eaton, Grapevine, and more.

As the team continued to build on their season, athletes like Catherine Young, Brianna Watson, Caroline Tredwell, Liz Goodspeed, Emerson Dement, Chloe O'Brien, and others showed out on the court for Flower Mound. Entering district play, the team went on a six-game win streak with victories over the likes of Lewisville, Flower Mound Marcus, Coppell, Hebron, and more. Losing only two matches in district play, the Lady Jaguars finished first in their district standings.

So far in playoffs, Flower Mound defeated McKinney in a 3-0 sweep. The team looks to continue their strong presence on the court as they enter a match-up against Richardson's JJ Pearce.

Richardson JJ Pearce Lady Mustangs (22-13, 12-2)

The Lady Mustangs have fought from the very start of their season. Posting incredible victories over the likes of Frisco Emerson, Mesquite Horn, Richardson, Frisco Memorial, and others through non-district play, JJ Pearce had multiple moments of which to be proud of as they prepared for the rest of their schedule. Learning from every moment and showcasing resiliency, the Lady Mustangs finished their non-district schedule with a 10-11 overall record. Knowing they needed to kick it into high gear in order to play strong matches against a tough district schedule, JJ Pearce did just that as they headed into district play.

Led by incredible athletes like Kendall Timme, Catherine McWhorter, Audrey Baergen, Elle Parisi, Jenna Sisson, Ryann Vik, and more, the Lady Mustangs worked their way through their district schedule by posting strong victories over Richardson Berkner, Lake Highlands, Irving MacArthur, Irving, Richardson, and more. Having lost only two matches through district play, the team finished second in their district standings-- just behind Highland Park.

So far in the playoffs, JJ Pearce has posted a 3-0 sweep over Arlington Lamar and looks to continue strong on Thursday night against Flower Mound.

What To Expect

Both teams have what it takes to be victorious. With similar records and drive, fans can expect this match to be an energetic battle to the finish. The Lady Mustangs are looking to make their mark and stand out against opponents in post-season play while the Lady Jaguars are looking to continue their dominance this season. Fans can expect a tough match as these two go head-to-head looking to make it one step closer to the state tournament.

The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 2nd at the neutral site of Carrollton Ranchview High School.
