CUBIT COLUMN: Estacado hopes for storybook ending, like ’68 state title season

Estacado's football season is one that could made into a movie.

To paint the picture, you need to flashback to the Matadors suffering a heartbreaking loss in the Region I-4A, Division II semifinals in 2018 and losing several key players who contributed to the run to graduation.

Those returning standouts, however, used the defeat as motivation to be better for their 2019 season. Then, a day after a Sept. 26 victory to move to 5-0, the Estacado football program's most iconic coach in Louis Kelley passed away.
