Lewisville Star Damien Martinez commits to Oregon State presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors

Early Monday evening, Lewisville star running back Damien Martinez took to Twitter to announce his commitment:

The junior running back is a three-star recruit according to a 247 Sports composite, and is ranked as the number 87 running back in the 2022 recruiting class. As a 5-foot-10 athlete, Martinez carried the ball 232 times for 2,010 yards and 30 touchdowns. Martinez was the leading rusher in the Dallas area in the 2020-21 regular season

Martinez chose the Beavers' program over the likes of Kansas, San Diego State, Texas State, and Georgia Tech.

There's no question about it: the Dallas-Fort Worth area has some of the top-rated athletes in the state if not the entire country. With top-notch athletes, incredible coaching staffs, and competitive teams, we see the best of the best battle it out all season for the chance and honor of earning the title of state champions. With volleyball season creeping up around the corner, VYPE DFW has come up with a list of the top teams in the DFW area that the fans should keep their eye on.

John Paul II softball trio leads fan poll for softball athlete of the year

John Paul II is known for producing quality athletes. A couple of weeks ago, fans had the opportunity to let their voices be heard in who they thought deserved to be voted as the VYPE DFW Private School Softball Player of the Year; heard they were! Sitting atop the polls was a trio from the Cardinals' squad: Emma Rodrigues, Taylor Marchin, and Aubrey Hutzler.

BREAKING: Quinn Ewers to skip Senior Season

Late last week it was rumored that Southlake Carroll QB, and #1 player in the country, Quinn Ewers would skip his senior season and enroll at Ohio State. Today those rumors look to be confirmed. According to multiple outlets Ewers, who has enough credits to graduate early, and will enroll at Ohio State and potentially comptete for the starting quarterback position.

Ewers is the number 1 player in the country according to 247 Sports and lead Southlake Carroll to the state championship game last season, falling short to Austin Westlake. There's not doubt that this decision was impacted by the recent news of Name, Image and Likeness from the NCAA.

Currently the UIL is still digesting the Name, Image and Likeness rules. But this decision will send shock waves through the Texas high school sports and NCAA landscape. Say tuned.
